Empathy through Art Family Art Workshop
Come make art with your family and learn more about the Empathy Through Art program piloted with third graders at Lincolnwood Elementary School this year. Empathy Through Art (ETA) is a social-emotional learning (SEL) program that utilizes the arts to encourage empathy development in young people ages 5-11yrs. ETA was developed by Art & Soul, an arts-based wellness center for children and families. The students explored drawing, collage, fabric arts, comic art, photography, and mixed media. Using these art forms they worked on individual projects and group projects to increase self-expression, promote positive peer relationships, and support classroom community. They learned empathy-related vocabulary, explored feeling identification and management, and used perspective taking skills that help to enable students to gain insight into how others feel and develop a sense of social responsibility for each other. The current exhibition at Gather is a culmination of the participating students’ art work. This event is FREE and open to the public.
